STEEL SHELLS

STEEL SHELLS
Machines are like musical instruments
Their mystery lies within their steel shells
I would have written of their greatness
Like a shooting star caught abruptly in the eye,
They left no poetry to form around their skins of metal.

I know you have a need for them
To continue touching their great piston hearts
The things that make you more like them than human
They are the creatures who lay sleeping,
the great Engines of War
But yellow is the sky now from their anger,
from the god-like collar of the age gone by.
